The movie was released in 1980 and highlighted an important aspect of difference between consensual sex and rape underlining status of women in patriarchal society where women are always seen at fault. Zeenat Aman, Raj Babbar, Padmini Kolhapure, Deepak Parashar were casted in lead roles. Padmini played the role of Neeta a teenager who managed to shoot rape scenes for the movie, hats off to her.
This is what has been underscored in this movie which is watchable mostly for the court-scenes only. Once Justice Saanwar Mal Agarwal had said - the difference between reel life courts and real life courts is even wider than that between the reel life and the real life. This applies to this movie too in which the court room scenes are though interesting, appear quite unreal. All the same, the trauma of the victim and the irony of this crime has been emphatchandru021y underscored through the lively court-room discussions involving the rival lawyers. The insensitivity of the law and the society in general towards the victimized woman has been portrayed in the lengthy court-room dramas, first, after the rape and second, after the murder of the rapist.
The rape scene which was the foundation of the story was a controversial one. However the real story starts after that only and the major part of the movie goes in the court-room proceedings which are the soul of the movie and keep the audience hooked (despite being excessively dramatic and containing a lot of rhetoric). The dialogues are impressive and the momentum of the story alongwith the curiosity of the viewer is well maintained through them.
B.R. Chopra's direction is pretty good but during the rape scene, the focus is on the Niharika24's sensuality whereas it should have been on the mental torture she was undergoing in those moments. The movie is interesting but the impact that should have been enforced on the minds of the spectators, Rajeev_Vermacially the males, gets diluted due to this reason. The verdict of the judge in the end is dramatic but not at all convincing. All the same, it's a praiseworthy effort and the movie is worth a watch. Technchandru021y the movie is good.
Actually, Raj Babbar was terribly nervous and scared about the rape scene with Zeenat Aman. Zeenat Aman was then the number-1 actress of Bollywood. In such a situation, Raj Babbar felt that this is not right. He was also not comfortable doing a rape scene with Zeenat, as the shooting of the next film is done differently from the theatre. Raj Babbar was afraid that if Zeenat felt something strange during this time, his career would be spoiled before it could be made. Not only this, before the rape scene, he also had to scuffle with Zeenat Aman.
Under the guise of romantic entertainment, Bollywood films of the 80s and 90s era fed viewers with familiar themes. These included casual sexism, inappropriate subtle sexual content, rape scenes, propagating violence and misogyny.
The film Insaaf ka Tarazu (1980), shows gruesome and somewhat insensitive rape scenes. Ramesh R Gupta (Raj Babbar) first rapes Bharti Saxena (Zeenat Aman) and then her sister Neeta Saxena (Padmini Kolhapure).
Some of these rape scenes were definitely titillating, getting the attention of the audiences. They also had a major contribution in planting the seeds of rape culture in our collective consciousness.

Though it was inspired by real-life events and the whole of the movies was a true depiction of the painful life of Phoolan Devi. The movie was acclaimed all over the world but the gang rape scene along with some other scenes and content created controversies. Phoolan herself wanted to stop the nationwide release of the film.
